Vodafone, one of the world's leading telecommunications companies with a strong presence in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, first began operations in Turkey in 2006. With a worldwide presence, the company had a broad vision for how a telecom company could expand in the post-2010s era and first contacted us in 2014 with a new concept for Vodafone Turkey: a mobile wallet payment solution.
The goal of the mobile financial solution was to introduce a modern payment method to Vodafone users and easily access the unbanked and underbanked population in Turkey with a user-friendly mobile wallet that allows for quick and easy checkout and payments at points of sale with just a single tap.
In 2014, no other telecommunications companies or Turkey-based fintech solutions offered a mobile payment solution, which presented both a significant challenge and an exciting opportunity for Tmob as we developed a brand new product for Vodafone Turkey. Following the success of Vodafone Wallet, the company rebranded its mobile payment service as Vodafone Pay, incorporating new features that align with current fintech application standards.
Our customized, configurable MFS platform offers all the features of a contemporary fintech service. Here are the key features that we integrated into Vodafone Pay. We have enabled our platform's P2P top-up feature to allow Vodafone Pay customers to use their wallets to add credit to another person's prepaid account. We have integrated Vodafone's physical prepaid card, the Vodafone Card, with the Vodafone Pay application to work seamlessly. One of the major advantages of Vodafone Pay compared to traditional banking systems is the ability to transfer money between users 24/7, and our MFS platform makes this possible in seconds. With its redesign in 2020, we have turned Vodafone Pay into more of a super-app, giving customers the freedom to add virtual cards or credit cards from other banks to the application for a more versatile and convenient experience. We customized Vodafone Pay with a user-friendly interface that allows users to track their payment history across multiple accounts within the same application. One of the key features of Vodafone Pay in terms of branding is improved customer data collection, and we have enabled personalized campaigns and offers to be sent as notifications for better user engagement. Vodafone Pay also supports the most popular contactless payment method, NFC.
Vodafone made a significant impact with our first MFS partnership, Vodafone Wallet, as the first company to offer a mobile wallet to its customers. The e-wallet application was downloaded by 300,000 people across the country, and the service and application received the Mobile Excellence Awards for Best Retail/Commerce Solution for Mobile and Best Mobile Payment in 2014.
The successor to Vodafone Wallet, Vodafone Pay, was downloaded by over 250,000 people in less than five months and users made over one million transactions via the Tmob MFS Platform. As of 2021, Vodafone Pay was downloaded by over 250,000 people in less than five months.
